The Triples Trophy was played for on Sunday, 16th March in teams of three, a Lady, a Man and a Junior. The format was a Bowmaker, played off three-quarter handicaps, with the best Stableford score to count on par threes, the best two Stableford scores to count on par fours and all three Stableford scores to count on par fives. Didi Ager (Lady Captain), Kevin Brimble (Club Captain) and Josh Summers won with 77 Stableford points.

Liz Thomas, Paul Thomas and Louis Archer (as ghost) came second with 76 points. It transpired that the end result all hinged on the eighteenth hole, on which the winning team scored nine points,

compared with the second place team's five points. Kevin Brimble's eagle on the

eighteenth hole couldn't have been better timed.

Farrington Park Ladies

The Ladies joined forces with the Seniors Section on Tuesday, 11th March, when twenty Ladies were drawn with twenty Seniors to play as pairs, competing for the Trubody Trophy. It was a lovely clear day, dry, with very little breeze, slightly chilly, but a great day's golf.

The format was a Greensomes Stableford, where both tee off, choose the best tee and then alternate shots until the ball is holed out. Margaret Seery and Mike Hedges came first, with 42 Stableford points, Wendy Butt and Steve Mitchell came second, with 39 points, and Lin Papadopoulos and Phil Thompson came third, with 38 Stableford points on countback.

Thursday's Australian Spoons competition was stymied by the thick blanket of fog that sat stubbornly in situ on Thursday morning. Had we waited for the clear before starting players off, we wouldn't have been able to get the entire field out during the time we had booked, so the competition had to be postponed and will be rearranged.

Fourteen Ladies took part in Saturday's Qualifying Stableford. Sue Stilwell came first, with 33 Stableford points, and Jackie Walker and Terri O'Shea came second and third respectively, with 31 Stableford points on countback.

The Club Captain, Kevin Brimble, Senior Captain, Jim Farmer, and Lady Captain, Didi Ager, joined forces on Friday, 14th March, holding a quiz in aid of the Combined Captains' Charity, the RUH's Forever Friends Appeal. The appeal is fundraising to build a new beginning for cancer treatment at the RUH – a state-of-the-art building, taking a holistic approach that is designed to produce a highly beneficial healing environment for patients and their families. Changing the shape of cancer patients' futures comes at a price – the Forever Friends Appeal is therefore raising £8.5 million towards the cost of the RUH Cancer Centre (total cost estimated at c.£23.5 million).

The Egg Tails, comprising of Lin Papadopoulos, Rob Thain, June Symonds, Steve Symonds, Trudy Thompson and Phil Thompson won, with 111 points. SeeForBall, comprised of Margaret Seery, Kevin Seery, Sue Forshaw, Dave Forshaw, Jane and Steve Ball came second, with 111 points.

The Captains were delighted to have raised £719.82 from the quiz's entry fees and raffle.

Farrington Park Seniors

The early mist made for interesting conditions for Farrington Park's Seniors on their weekly competition day. Fortunately, it lifted sufficiently to enable play to commence. The format this week was a Tennessee Waltz, played in teams of three over eighteen holes with Stableford scoring.

Results of the nearest the pin competitions: 5th David Brown, 8th David Metcalfe, 14th Keith Shepherd, 15th Bev Woodland.

Tennessee Waltz results: 1st Alan Elkington, Bev Woodland and Ralph Pawley, 84 points, 2nd Mike Hedges, Jeff Kelly and Steve Mitchell, 81 points, 3rd Steve Symonds, Roger Stone and John Holland, 78 points (countback), 4th Sandy Watanabe, Keith Shepherd and Adrian Miller, 78 points, 5th Bill Sims, Tony James and Derek McCaig, 77 points.

Farrington Park Men

With the course drying out and conditions getting more helpful, Darren Wilkins took full advantage to win in Division One last Saturday, scoring 37 points. Paul Jones was beaten into second place on countback, with Kevin Eyles a close third, scoring 35 points.

An outstanding score of 43 points in Division Two secured first place for John Burton, with Don Perry taking second place, with 38 points, closely followed by Ian Jones, with 37 points.

The weather for the Sunday Medal was near perfect for golf, the competitors were blessed with lovely sunshine and no wind. Mark Chandler took the honours in Division One, scoring a gross 80 (nett 68), followed by Steve Kingman, gross 73 (nett 68), and Dave Forshaw was third, with gross 82 (nett 68).

Division Two was won by Pierce O'Shea, who made the most of the great playing conditions, scoring gross 83 (nett 68), followed by in-form Paul Fackerell, gross 92 (nett 68), with junior golfer, Louis Archer, finishing third with gross 85 (nett 68).
