Corey Walkes has been selected to represent Great Britain in the 2019 European Games, which will be held in Minsk, Belarus, later this month.
Corey, who lives with his family in Radstock, turned eighteen in February, and is the only male selected to represent Great Britain in the trampoline event.
Corey is in his final year of Sixth Form at Beechen Cliff and is a former Writhlington School pupil. He trains both at Quayside Trampoline and Gymnastics Club in Bridgwater with his Personal International Performance Coach, Sue Bramble, and with the Senior British Gymnastics trampoline team at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, near Telford.
Minsk 2019 is the second iteration of the European Games and will be held in the Belarussian capital from Friday, 21st to Sunday, 30th June. More than 4,000 athletes from fifty countries will compete across ten days in 200 different medal events.
Quayside’s Head Coach, Sue Bramble, said: “We are very proud of Corey’s selection. It will be a great opportunity to experience such a big multi-sport event at this time in his sporting career.”
Corey’s selection has meant that both Quayside’s international performers will now have competed in this event. Laura Gallagher competed in the inaugural European Games, held in 2015 in Baku.
