Norton Radstock Swimming Club played host to Backwell, Bristol Penguins and Cheltenham as this year's Cotswold League got underway.

There are no divisions in the early rounds of the league, so the club started with a tough draw against some big city teams and finished runners-up to a very strong Backwell squad.

This was down to a terrific all-round team performance, both on the individual and team events.

With a small squad, in comparison to the other teams, several swimmers had a very busy evening, swimming in both their own age group and above.

Individual wins on the night came from Daniel Crocker, Joseph McLachlan, Zac Keeling, Liam Willcox, Maisie Gudmunsen, Kate Rowell, Evie-Rose Young and Alice Wells.

The 13/U and 15/U boys and the 15/U girls Relay Teams were unbeaten on the night and there were also wins for the 11/U boys Medley Team and 13/U girls Medley Team.

Thirteen personal best times were set: Rio Mongtomery, 100m Individual Medley, Evie-Rose Young, 25m, 50m Breaststroke and 25m Fly, Daniel Crocker, 100m Individual, Medley and 50m Freestyle, Archie Isherwood, 25m Fly, Zac Keeling, 50m Fly, Liam Willcox, 100m Fly, Joseph McLachlan, 50m Breaststroke, Andrew Mateer, 50m Backstroke and Jack Barter, 100m Backstroke.

The club would like to thank all the parents who helped and supported on the evening to make this an enjoyable and successful event.

Norton Radstock's young volunteers have also been busy. Congratulations to Katie Ball, who was selected to join the ASA SW Young Coaching Academy. She has attended a development training day, with further development opportunities planned for 2015 by the region and club. Grant funding for the Ralph and Irma Sperring Trust was secured to enable Katie to attend a UKCC Level One course during February half-term.

Club Captain, Liam Willcox, was invited to attend this year's British Swimming National Talent Camp for Talented Young Athletics, Coaches and Officials from 18th–22nd December at Loughborough University as a Mentor. As a graduate of both programmes, he was seen to be an exemplary role model to the new intake.
