Having defeated Purnell, Timsbury, Bath Hospitals and then Winscombe in the Semi-Final, Temple went to the County ground, Taunton, for the 20/20 Intermediate Cup Final on Sunday in a quietly confident mood.
Their opponents were Street, currently joint-top of the Somerset Premier League, and a fascinating duel took place, with the result in doubt until the final over.
Temple won the toss and put Street into bat, with Simon Mahoney and Chris Diaper opening the attack. They both had early successes, leaving Street on 35–3 after eight overs. Miles Hackett then came into the attack, getting Harris caught behind by Courtney Forrest for one, and at 36–4, Temple were well on top.
Wicket-keeper, Ben Trotman, then scored an impressive forty, and with Kyle Watts (26) also scoring well, the initiative swung in Street’s favour. Rob Head then stepped in with two important wickets, and with a run-out as the pressure increased, Street reached 119–8. However, the final score was adjusted to 125 as Temple were penalised six runs for a slow over rate. The score looked slightly under-par, but in the event was a challenging total.
Temple made a brisk start, with Miles Hackett first out for 25, with the score at 39 off five overs. Simon Curtis continued to pick up runs, but tight bowling from Higgs and Lake slowed the run rate, and with Andrew Mortimer run out for one, a score of 2–56 was behind the required run rate at the half-way stage.
Simon was then out for 31, which brought together skipper, Kevin Curtis, just back from injury, and Courtney Forrest also playing his first game after a knee injury. Sharp singles were out, but with good placement and the occasional big hit, they gradually overcame Street’s attack.
The out-fielding was good, but Kevin, with 42 not-out, controlled the situation well, ably assisted by Courtney (seventeen not-out), and with three required from the final over, they hit the winning runs with two balls to spare.
Kevin Curtis received the Man of the Match award from the organisers, who complimented both sides on the quality of the match. Kevin thanked their supporters for their outstanding support, as this was the first silverware since the club’s victories in 2007 and 2009 at Taunton.
