Chew Magna gained ample revenge for their recent defeat at Timsbury in the Davidstow

National Village Cup with a 66 run home win in the Bristol and District League Senior Division. Chasing a victory target of 168, Timsbury looked well on course at 59-0, but a huge collapse saw them lose their last 10 wickets for just 42 runs.

Star of the day was Chew all-rounder Charlie Thompson. After a quickfire 46 from Stuart Watson, Thompson showed good application to score an undefeated 43 and get the home side to a competitive total on a slow pitch. Chew themselves imploded losing their last six wickets for just 38 runs in the face of tidy bowling from Jon Strand (4-30) and Alex Young (3-36).

Mark Sage and Strand then set Timsbury on their way with a positive opening stand, but the dismissal of Sage by former Timsbury all-rounder Gary Filer for 23 and the introduction into the attack of the wily Ken Mondair and Thompson opened the floodgates. A mixture of good bowling and indiscriminate shots saw Mondair record the excellent figures of 5-13 from his 9 overs, while Thompson completed a memorable day with a hat-trick in his spell of 4-17.
