Timsbury produced a commanding performance in their home match with Almondsbury in the Bristol and District League Senior Division and ran out comfortable 110 run winners. There were many important contributors to the success, but the real star of the day was Nathan Hawkins who set the Timsbury innings alight with his first senior half century and who looked set for three figures before being bowled for a sparkling 87.
Hawkins came to the crease after the early departure of Adam Brinkworth and added 117 with Jon Strand for the second wicket before Strand’s impressive knock ended just one run short of a deserved half century. Hawkins, who not long ago was batting at number 10 for the seconds, struck 9 fours and 4 sixes in a knock that ended just before the drinks’ break. Greg Passingham, in his last innings before his wedding, again lent crucial support with a well constructed knock of 37, Jesse Bishop chipped in with a breezy 26 and Timsbury reached an imposing 293-9 at the end of their 45 overs. Andrew Parkinson was the most successful Almondsbury bowler with 3-48.
After the fielding horrors of the previous week, Timsbury gave a vastly improved performance when the visitors batted. Alex Young again produced a controlled opening spell of bowling and his figures of 0-28 in 9 overs did him no favours. Almondsbury, to their credit, responded well to the task in hand and reached 96-1 with opener, Jack Kewley, and Liam Hartigan adding 84 for the second wicket. Hartigan was then bowled by home skipper, Steve Clothier, for 48 and although Kewley went on to hit 70, he lost a series of partners as Timsbury exerted the pressure. Six of the home attack took wickets with Clothier’s 3-42 the best return and backed up by confident catching, a neat stumping from Brinkworth and an excellent run out from Jack Williams Timsbury’s total was never seriously threatened.
