KEYNSHAM 243-4 KILMERSDON 239-3

Kilmersdon fell agonisingly short of their third successive victory as they were beaten by just four runs at Keynsham.

The home side opted to bat first on a good wicket, and opening pair, Scott Tweedie and Ed Bartlett, got off to a strong start before Bartlett was dismissed by Harry Humphries for 41; well-caught by Charlotte Hazell in the gully.

Humphries quickly added another wicket to finish with 2-26, before Tweedie and Keynsham skipper, Colin Arblaster, added a sizeable partnership for the third wicket. Tweedie brought up three figures before falling to Hazell (2-42), caught by Humphries, for precisely 100, and Arblaster followed in the same over for 61, this time caught by Ben Curtis, as Keynsham closed on 243-4.

Kilmersdon openers, Steve Jackson and Alex Gardiner, were able to match their Keynsham counterparts and got the run chase off to a good start. Both passed their half

centuries – Gardiner’s second in three matches – before he was bowled by Tweedie for 69.

Jackson pressed on and reached three figures for a second game in succession, but fell soon after for a fine 112. Matt Ball tried to keep the momentum going with a quick-fire 21, and despite some late efforts from Keiron Gray and Ashley Davis, Kilmersdon were just unable to get over the line. With six needed from the final ball, Davis’ drive down the ground landed short of the boundary.

This week, Kilmersdon have a home fixture against Harptree Villages at Peasedown St John Cricket Club on Sunday, 1.30 p.m.
