Midsomer Norton’s Second XI will be playing at a higher level next season after Saturday’s convincing victory over Bristol West Indian and Phoenix CC secured promotion. Captain, Dan Cox, said: “This is the culmination of a lot of hard work over the whole season. It’s rewarding to see a group where our key players have almost exclusively been homegrown from the youth system. Hopefully, their success signals a bright future for the club.”
Batting first at Withies Lane on a muggy afternoon under overcast skies, the home team amassed 312–6 against an under strength opposition. Four Norton batsmen passed the half century mark – Toby Hobbs, Andrew Cox, Luke Justin and Morgan Skipp – and at the end of 45 overs, the home side had reached 312–6.
Norton skittled out their opponents’ depleted side for 45 runs inside fifteen overs, the wickets shared between Niel Brooks, Morgan Skipp and Max Bartlett. Norton won by 267 runs. Norton will now look to secure their current position at the top of the table with a win in their final game at Portishead on Saturday.
