Despite the weather forecast, which included heavy showers, skipper, Nick Potter, had little hesitation in electing to bat first against local friends and rivals, Brislington.
Tight bowling from Jon Rogers and Chris Munden restricted Norton’s openers and both fell to Rogers in the first seven overs. Bokang Mosena (62) and Martin Cox (29) patiently rebuilt the innings, adding 63 for the third wicket before Cox was adjudged LBW. Dan Cox was also dismissed by Khanapurkar’s wily leg spin, but Jon Harvey shared in two significant stands of 46 and 56 with Mosena and Nick Potter (30) to take the total to 207–9 from the allotted fifty overs.
Norton took to the field confident of defending the total, but the weather intervened with the Brislington reply on 46–1. A total of 21 overs were lost to rain and the target was revised to 121 from 29 overs. With a wet ball, the bowlers were unable to put any pressure on the Brislington batsmen and the home team duly completed a nine wicket win. Midsomer Norton CC would like to thank Brislington players and spectators for organising a collection for Macmillan.
