TEMPLE CLOUD 170 SHAPWICK & POLDEN 2nds 171-9

In a game of fluctuating fortunes, Temple lost by one wicket in a sporting encounter at Stowey Road.

They won the toss and batted first, and at 70-without-loss looked to be set for a large total, with Simon Curtis (56) leading the way. Jay Terry (2-23) dismissed both openers, then it became the Jacques Luckins show for the visitors. He ended up with 6-53 as Temple’s middle and lower order collapsed. They were dismissed without using all their overs for an under-par 170 on a good batting track.

Shapwick lost early wickets, but a partnership between Rudge (22) and Hackett (39) put them in a strong position on 107-3. Several wickets then fell in the 150s to give Temple hope, but Rob Travers with 34 not-out shepherded the tail to victory with a nervous 16 runs added by the last pair. Rob Head (5-37) was the most successful home bowler.

On Sunday, the club celebrated their 100th anniversary with an informal get-together of past and current members and friends at Stowey Road. The weather was kind and with plenty of past memorabilia on show, many memories were recalled and shared.

Andrew Tucker and his family were present and older club members remembered that the club’s longevity was courtesy of three generations of the Tucker family, their landlords and supporters at Stowey Road.
