Having defeated Timsbury at home and Bath Hospitals away, Temple entertained Winscombe at Stowey Road in the Semi-Final of the Somerset Intermediate cup.
Temple won the toss and put Winscombe in, which looked a good decision at ten overs, when the visitors were 54-5. Simon Mahoney (1-19) and Chris Diaper (3-17) did the damage, followed by an economic 1-21 from Miles Hackett. This brought Scanlon (58 not-out) and Goodrum (31) together, who first consolidated the innings and then accelerated over the final four overs to get to 146-6.
Temple’s reply followed a similar pattern, and they were in trouble at 57-4. Kevin Curtis (thirty) back from injury, but not fully fit, and Chris Diaper with a hard-hitting 29 put Temple ahead of the required run rate and back in control. Tom Hall (4-23) chipped in with vital wickets, but Jason Head with 27 rallied the tail. When he was run-out it needed Rob Head and Simon Mahoney to get the necessary runs for victory, with three balls to spare.
This win, in a very close sporting encounter, means that Temple will play Street in the Final at the County Ground, Taunton, on Sunday, 5th August.
