Timsbury 161-8 Congresbury 146

Timsbury turned the form book upside down, with a totally committed performance to beat table-topping Congresbury, by 15 runs at home, in the West of England Premier League. It was just Timsbury’s second win of the season and their first at home, but was thoroughly deserved.

After being put into bat, Timsbury lost a clutch of early wickets, but the innings was held together by vice-captain and opener, Adam Brinkworth, who came to the party with a fine knock of 74, which included 13 fours.

After his dismissal, teenager, Sol Thompson, demonstrated an old head on young shoulders, with an unbeaten 24, which saw him at the crease for nearly two hours, as he helped the home side bat out the fifty overs available, for only the second time this season, with good support from Neil Hucker and Steve Clothier, to post a total of 161.

Congresbury set about the challenge in positive fashion, with captain, Justin Yau, taking 16 from the first over and at 57-1, looked well on the way to a comfortable victory. However, Timsbury stuck to their task and with Sam Hoddinott taking 3-37, including an excellent caught and bowled, the visitors began to lose vital wickets.

At 108-4, they were still in charge, but then the introduction of left arm spinner, Clothier, proved a master stroke. In 9.4 overs he took 5-16, as Timsbury secured a morale-boosting win that put a huge dent in Congresbury’s promotion hopes.

Timsbury Seconds experienced contrasting fortunes, with a 93 run defeat away to Taveners, in the Bristol and District League Division Seven. Innings of 63, from Lohit Ramegowda and 61, from Rob Cousins, saw the home side total 211-9 from their 45 overs. Neil Hulford (3-33) and Gary Pearcy (3-45) were Timsbury’s top bowlers.

The visitors’ response was disappointing, with only Adam Workman (27), Greg Passingham (27) and Paul Cracknell (12) reaching double figures, in a total of 118. Ramegowda and Newton both took three wickets for the home side.
