Timsbury’s Davidstow National Village adventure ended in disappointing fashion when they were beaten by 9 wickets at home to a very efficient Goatacre side. Having done well to beat three tough opponents in winning the county championship this proved to be a step too far.
With four regular members of the first team squad missing due to the Glastonbury factor, this was always going to be a big ask for Timsbury and losing the toss after the rain of the previous day made things no easier. Mark Sage began in typically ebullient style, but after his dismissal for 29, only Nathan Hawkins with 18 managed to put together any innings of note as Timsbury were hustled out for 80. Giorgio Rigali, who later collected the Man of the Match Trophy awarded by Trophies of Radstock, was the chief destroyer with excellent figures of 5-17 from his 9 overs. He was well supported by Matthew House (2-32) and Jonathan Wilkins (2-8) together with a sharp fielding performance.
When Goatacre replied, Neil Hucker made an early breakthrough when he dismissed the dangerous Kevin Iles for 1, but that was as good as it got for the home side. Captain Edward Wilkins (52 not out) and Jack Haines (29 not out) saw Goatacre home with plenty to spare.
