Timsbury are through once more to the Area Final of the Davidstow National Village Cup after beating Chew Magna at home by four wickets with more than seven overs to spare.

The home side did well to restrict the visitors to 189-7 from their 40 overs and an opening partnership of 101 between Mark Sage and Adam Brinkworth laid a confident foundation for the success.

Asked to bat first, Chew Magna lost two early wickets, including that of Mike Denning, who had hit a century the day before. They worked hard to resurrect their innings and after twelve overs had reached the promising realms of 67-2. Lee Bryant was going particularly well before he was superbly caught at backward square leg by Greg Passingham for a hard hitting 40. The innings was then held together by Charlie Thompson and former Timsbury all-rounder, Gary Filer who added 91 for the fifth wicket. Thompson was eventually bowled by home skipper, Jon Strand, for 50, a fate similarly suffered by Filer who perished for 47. Strand emerged with the excellent figures of 3-24 from his nine overs.

In reply, Sage continued his confident start to the new season with another half century and was well supported by Brinkworth, who found the boundary on five occasions with some elegant shots. The two players then departed in the space of two balls, Sage for 56 and Brinkworth for 32, but Nathan Hawkins and Jack Williams kept up the momentum with a positive stand of 63. Williams was eventually dismissed for 28 and Hawkins for 30 as young Fraser Thomas took three quick wickets for the visitors, but there was to be no late drama and a boundary from Passingham sealed the victory and a home tie with North Perrott or Frenchay.
