After being absent from the golf course for a few weeks, Cyril Blacker has returned to action with a bang in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club, capping it all with his first-ever hole in one in the March Medal.

He achieved every golfer's dream at the par three 16th, although it was only enough to see him finish in third place with a nett 67. Phil Moody won the medal with 64, followed by retired farmer, Bill Lester, who scored a nett 65.

Earlier in the week, Blacker, together with another in-form player, Allen Cheney, had provided the one positive element in the Seniors' 4–1 defeat against Worlebury in the Somerset Rose Bowl at Mendip Spring. The two players were in great form, beating their low handicap opponents, 7&6. The other pairings found life more difficult on the large, demanding course. Bob Smith and Geoff Hallett led at the turn before eventually going down 2&1, Graham Edgell and Lester and Mike Ricketts, paired with Vice-Captain, John Appleton, both lost 5&4, while John Bendle and Malcolm Tucker were beaten 4&3.

Cheney's good form saw him comfortably lift the Stan Brown Four Ball Better Ball Cup together with Denis White, who came in as a late replacement for Howard Nowell. Their nett total of sixty saw them five shots clear of George Underwood and Moody, who beat third-placed Terry Button and Chris Ellam on count back.

This Thursday sees the First Round of the Rupert Moore Seniors Championship, while the social matches get underway on Tuesday, March 31st with a home match against Frome.
