FROME TOWN LADIES 4 BURNHAM UNITED 0
Frome Town Ladies welcomed Burnham United Ladies to Badgers Hill for their first game of 2019, and were looking to start the New Year in winning fashion.
It didn’t take long for Frome to test the Burnham keeper, with a half-chance falling to Underhill, who lifted the ball over the away keeper but narrowly missed the target.
Frome, with all the early pressure, struck their first on eight minutes, after a misjudged header by the Burnham center-half found the net after good pressure from Underhill, following a searching cross into the box by Seviour. Frome’s supremacy across the park showed as each attack ended with a save from the visiting keeper or a last-ditch clearance from the Burnham defence.
Twenty minutes in, a free-kick awarded to Frome on the edge of the area was pushed onto the post by the keeper from a well-struck shot by Underhill, but in the right place to tap in lurked the industrious Petteford, to put Frome two-up. Frome continued to push on for a third for the remaining 25 minutes of the half, creating more chances, but were unable to convert.
The second half started with Frome looking comfortable across the whole pitch for ten minutes, and capitalised on a bit of good luck as Christmas’ goal-bound effort took a deflection and nestled nicely in the bottom corner to put the game to bed.
Both teams battled hard, but the supporting crowd had to wait until the 87th minute for Frome’s fourth, as Petteford swivelled and turned her marker on the edge of the area and instinctively hit a sweet shot into the bottom corner.
Frome supporters’ Player of the Match was awarded to Petteford, who worked the whole game for the team and also grabbed herself two goals. The Robins travel to Yeovil next weekend, as they look to extend their season-long unbeaten run against Penmill Ladies.
