Timsbury’s season continued to unravel with another lacklustre performance, resulting in a 3-2 away defeat against Fry Club Reserves in this Somerset County League Division One East game.
After a dour start to the game, it sparked into life after fifteen minutes when a Makombe run down the left saw him beat two defenders, before cutting inside only to see his shot hit the outside of the post.
Fry responded when a misplaced back-pass from Brooks fell to the feet of Haskins, whose shot was well-saved by Scrivens in the Timsbury goal.
Fry took the lead after 25 minutes, when a corner from the left was headed on at the near post to Fews, who was left unchallenged to head home to make it 1-0.
The lead lasted less than ten minutes, when after a defensive mix-up a back-header fell short of the keeper, allowing Cook to race in and lob the ball into an empty net. Hailston was then unlucky to see his shot from 25 yards flash over the bar.
Despite their lowly league position, the home side continued to threaten, and were unlucky not to go ahead again when a shot from the edge of the box by Fews hit the underside of the bar and bounced away to safety.
This was then followed by another effort from Haskins, which just went wide of the post. Fry’s continued to press, and were eventually rewarded when a cross from the right was volleyed home by Bush to make it 2-1.
Timsbury’s immediate response came from another jinking run by Makombe down the right, which ended with his shot hitting the post, and Lutwama scoring from the rebound only to be flagged for offside.
With twenty minutes remaining, Haskins scored the goal of the game when his shot from twenty yards hit the underside of the bar on the way into the net for a deserved 3-1 lead.
Timsbury made a triple substitution which finally spurred them into action, a Hancock shot from 25 yards flew just past the post, then the same player was fouled in the box, giving Cook the chance to make the score 3-2 from the penalty spot.
Timsbury laid siege on the Fry’s goal for the final ten minutes, and despite a Lutwama header being tipped onto the bar by George, in the final minute their defence held firm for a deserved win.
Star Man: Liam Haskins, Fry’s Reserves.
