The visitors looked sharp from the outset and took the lead on twenty minutes when Rovers’ defender, Josh Ford, was adjudged to have brought down Ryan Hawkins in the box and his strike partner, Tom Meechan, made no mistake with the penalty.
St Neots doubled their lead on 32 minutes when Ford’s under-hit back pass saw keeper, Ben John’s attempted clearance strike Hawkins and rebound into the empty net.
Rovers looked to be back in the game on 57 minutes, when Josh Morgan-Williams turned and fired home. However, the visitors regained their two goal advantage within a minute, as Hawkins’ cross from the right wasn’t dealt with and Meechan grabbed his second goal.
Then on 73 minutes, Ford was caught in possession by Hawkins who then raced away, rounded John and slotted home.
Substitute, Tom Knighton, reduced the arrears on 82 minutes from the penalty spot after a defender was adjudged to handle the ball from a free kick.
The final goal came two minutes later, when Rovers conceded a needless free kick, which found Josh Beech unmarked and he headed home to secure a 5–2 win.
Star man: Ryan Hawkins (St Neots).
Rovers’ match against Poole Town also ended in a loss for the team last Tuesday evening, (2–1), but produced a performance full of character which could have earned them at least a point on another day.
