PAULTON Rovers put four past Bradford Town without reply at home in mid-week in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League.
After a good win in Cornwall, Rovers would have been looking to grab back-to-back wins for the first time since early August. But stood in the way was a Bradford Town side who had made a good start to the campaign and had beaten Rovers in the reverse fixture back in July.
So this game was not going to be easy. The opening ten minutes were tight without much pattern as both teams struggled to get a flow to their game. An early chance for Bradford's Josiah McKayle was saved comfortably by Seb Tylek in the Rovers' goal.
In the 15th minute though, Rovers won a corner. Martin Lenihan stepped up and swung the ball in. Bradford's keeper Tom Cree, stretched to reach the ball but seemed to deflect the ball into his own net but Lenihan will still want to claim it!
The game still struggled to find a pattern with many chances for either team but remained enjoyable nonetheless. Probably the next brightest spot for the hosts came in the 32nd minute as Emman Athanasiou made a great run out from right back finding Kitan Jaiyeoba with a perfect through ball but the resulting shot was deflected and the ball looped up into the keeper's hands.
Bradford began the second half looking to get back into the game quickly. Chances came and went for Charlie Maddison and Jenson Wakefield but the Rovers' defence, with Alex Hallett making his debut, soaked up most of the pressure.
At the other end Kyle Witt picked up the ball from a throw-in and flashed a shot just wide of the post. The best chance for Bradford came moments later in the 60th minute. The ball broke from a Rovers corner and a long ball out of defence found ex-Rovers player Leo Gallazi who stormed into the box. His fierce strike was well saved by Tylek turning the ball away for a corner.
It was the last time Bradford really threatened in the half as Rovers began to ramp up the pressure. In the 70th minute substitute Elliot Haffenden did well to hold the ball on the edge of the box before slipping in Kitan Jaiyeoba who also put his shot just past the post.
But only two minutes later the lead was doubled. Creed fluffed a goal kick, the ball going straight out to Elliot Haffenden. The striker still had a lot to do but he held off a challenge and chipped Creed in style.
The game was now mainly being played in the Bradford half and Haffenden's second goal came in the 80th minute. Kyle Witt picked up the ball on the left, made his way into the box and pulled the ball back to Haffenden who stroked the ball into the net.
Bradford were a little rattled and a couple of heavy challenges came in with Charlie Maddison possibly lucky to get away with a yellow card after a particularly late challenge. As the game entered added time, Will Osborne lofted a hopeful ball into the box. It seemed like it should have been a routine take for the keeper, but he fumbled it allowing Kyle Witt to tap the ball in for Rovers' fourth.
