PAULTON ROVERS 3 SLOUGH TOWN 3
Paulton had a chance in the fourth minute when Jake Mawford, put through by Darren Mullings, blasted over the crossbar from ten yards out.
He did score five minutes later as Mullings’ pass was flicked on by Sol Wheatley and Mawford ran on to slip the ball past the Rebels keeper, Mark Scott. Two minutes later, Slough pulled one back as Lewis Putman’s cross was met by a looping header by Ed Smith and it sailed over Rovers’ Keeper, Ben John.
Lee Barnley had a chance to level, only to hit wide, then Mullings responded with a shot blocked by Dan Hicks. Mawford nearly added to his tally as he volleyed the ball, which bounced wickedly and hit an unsuspecting Scott on the head for a corner.
With half-time approaching, Barnley broke through and his attempt to chip John was thwarted by the stopper. Mullings was put through by Mawford with Scott saving with his feet. Slough equalised in spectacular style, with Putman wide on the left hitting a deep cross that sailed over John into the net.
Three minutes later, the visitors went ahead with confusion in the six-yard box and Smith slipped the ball to Barnley to score. Paulton seemed to lose control over midfield and twice Rovers kicked off the line and Barnley saw his effort smothered by John. However, they should have levelled on 73 minutes, as Wheatley’s cross saw Jordan Ricketts head over inside the six-yard box when he seemed certain to score. John saved from Putman and headed over from Warren Harris’ cross.
Paulton grabbed the equaliser on 89 minutes when Mullings found
Mawford, who hammered a low shot past Scott to the delight of the Rovers faithful. Star Man of the Match was awarded to Jake Mawford (Paulton Rovers).
