The Mid-Somerset Football League are delighted to have Frome Collegians in the Final of the Somerset Junior Cup, which they won last season.

It was not an easy game in the Semi-Final away to Bridgwater Sports. After Lee Handford had tied the game at 1-1 at full-time, it was on to penalties. After Frome’s young goalkeeper, Smart, saved one of the hosts’ spot-kicks, they won 5-4.

Mendip Rangers lost out to South Petherton Res, 2-1, in the Somerset Intermediate Cup. It was a well-fought game that could have gone either way. Petherton Res took their chances and deservedly progressed to the Semi-Final.

In the Premier League, the top game of the day was at Pilton, who entertained Coleford Ath; the home team going ahead early in the game. After an even first half, the visitors could have gone in at half-time on level terms, but Jack Davis shot over the bar from the penalty spot.

Pilton had the perfect start to the second half – in just ten minutes they made it 3-0, with the game going from end to end until the final whistle. Pilton stay top of the League and have a big game on Friday night against Frome Collegians in the Dimmock Green KO Cup Final at Shepton Mallet; kick-off 7.30 p.m.

A mention in the game at Pilton must go to the referee, Jerry Young, who had an excellent game. It was pleasing to see how he dealt with the continued bad language – something all referees should tighten up on with young families in attendance.

Chilcompton Res have probably lost the chance of a promotional spot in the First Division, losing away to Evercreech, 3-1, with Sam Davis getting the goal.

The Second Division saw the League-leaders lose (away to Saltford, 1-0) for only the second time this season, but they are within touching distance of the winning line. Archie Roach got the only goal of the game. Coleford Res are eyeing the second promotional spot with another good win away to Stoke, 2-0, with Jack Bradley and Adam Cray getting the goals.

The only game in the Third Division was Chilcompton A winning away to Westfield A, 5-2.

In the Paulton Hospital Cup, Purnell Sports progress to the Semi-Finals, beating Peasedown Albion away, 4-1 – Jake Cox getting the consolation goal for the hosts.

Peasedown A have reached the Semi-Final of the Baxter Shield, beating Farrington at home, 6-2. Getting the goals for the hosts were Connor Liddiard (3), Jack Newman (2) and Ben Brown.

Belrose scored ten away to Westhill Sports Res in the Morland Cup and progress to the Quarter-

Finals. Netting the goals were Alex Fudge (2), Charlie Moon (2), Max Culan (2), Harvey Kelly, Jack Harris, Danny Morgan and sub, Ben Futcher. Ben Grubb scored the only goal for the home team.
