The featured game last Saturday was the Dimmock Green KO Cup Semi-Final between Coleford and Bath Villa, and what a match it turned out to be, on a very muddy pitch in the wind and rain.
Home team Coleford came from two goals down to win 4-2. Coleford conceded after just 41 seconds and again after fifteen minutes, a great deal of credit must go to the home goalkeeper, Reece Cromer, who kept the visitors down to the two goals in the first half. Curt Mcinerney pulled one back for Coleford to go in 2-1 down at half-time.
The home team could not have got off to a better start in the second half, with Mcinerney scoring his second after just 67 seconds, while Jack Davis and Dan Schuster secured a place in the final with two further goals.
In the Somerset Intermediate Cup, Peasedown Albion proved much too strong for Coleford Res, winning 9-0 with goals from Rico Sobers (3), Lee Gould, Scott Baker, Jordon Turvey, Lee Smith and Dan Hucker (2) – this being a milestone for the Albion’s centre forward, reaching 100 goals.
In the semi-finals of the Baxter Shield, Evercreech made it to the final by just a single goal, 1-0 at home against Wessex, where they will be up against Peasedown Albion Res, who beat Westfield A away 7-1.
The Wilmott Cup Round One saw Stoke at home beat Pilton Res 4-1.
In the Premier League, with goals from Joe Curtis, Alex Docherty and Ross Padfield, Purnell Sports Res at home beat Mells 3-2, and Westfield Res won at home 2-1 against Radstock A; their goals coming from Beau Baber and Jake Mitchell.
Division One threw up some puzzling score lines: Meadow Rangers at home really came unstuck against Chilcompton Res, losing 9-1, and what happened to third-place Clutton Res, who suffered a massive defeat away at Pilton? Losing 10-1, the home team took the top of the league by just one point.
Only one game in Division Two took place this weekend; Westhill Res having a good away win at Saltford Res, 3-2.
The only unbeaten team in the whole of the Mid-Somerset League was Weston Bath of the Third Division, who had to work hard to overcome Purnell A, winning just 1-0. They are eleven points clear of Stoke, who have four games in hand.
