PAULTON Rovers gained a 5-1 home win over St Blazey in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League on a very wet afternoon.
Paulton looked to get on top early. Long balls seemed to be the order of the day with the conditions not conducive to free flowing football. And in the fifth minute, Chris Peck cleared the ball out of defence straight to Kailan Gould setting him clear to score.
The signs were good but Rovers were stunned in the 18th minute when a Blazey forward won a penalty. Wayne Nderemani was adjudged to have brought him down but the crowd roared that he’d got the ball. Nevertheless, the protests were waived away and Haiden Chapman decisively struck the ball down the middle.
The lead was restored five minutes later when Kitan Jaiyeoba was brought down in the Blazey box. He took the penalty himself and made no mistake.
The half didn’t produce many chances but there had still been three goals for the crowd to enjoy. The rain began to ease in the second half and Rovers came out looking to play some football. And it only took three minutes to extend the lead. Dan McBeam rode some tackles t before feeding Jaiyeoba who moved to the edge of the box before firing to the left of the keeper.
Paulton’s fourth goal came in the 60th minute when a corner was defended away but only as far as Kailan Gould who dodged a tackle before crossing the ball in. Chris Peck was on hand at the near post to turn the ball in off his chest.
Following a number of substitutions, the fifth goal came just six minutes later when Gould was again instrumental, crossing from the right to Kitan Jaiyeoba. His initial shot was saved but he was able to guide in the rebound.
