Peasedown Albion played their very first competitive Walking Football match on Wednesday, 17th July against Midsomer Norton FC.

The match was very competitive from the first whistle, with neither team taking the game lightly.

Midsomer Norton took the lead with a great turn and finish from Andy Ashman. As Peasedown Albion got more into the game, it was easy to see flashes of some of the players that really were local football legends when playing in their prime.

Two of these legends scored two very well-taken goals, with brothers, Jack and Paul Woodland, scoring to give Albion a 2-1 lead. The lead was short-lived, however, as Midsomer Norton’s Tony Price scored a deserved equaliser.

The game was played in great spirit, with the players from both sides enjoying a pint together afterwards. No doubt there will be a few aches in the morning, but these will certainly be outweighed by the smiles!

Peasedown Albion’s Team were Joe Wiseman, Rob Fletcher, Barry Gay, Jack Woodland, Paul Woodland, Steve Foot, Bryn Anstice and Mike Gregory.

Mike Gregory set up the team to give men and women over the age of fifty an opportunity to take part in football again, or even for the first time!

We have had up to 21 players turning up to our training sessions on a Monday night, with ages ranging from 44 to 77 years-young, with everyone enjoying not just the football but also the social side.

Anyone interested in coming along to training, our sessions take place at Peasedown Cricket Club on Monday nights, starting at 7 p.m.
