WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Helston Athletic 1 Paulton Rovers 5
A CLINICAL performance in warm conditions saw Rovers take all three points away from Helston Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
Moments after the hosts had a penalty shout waved away, Rovers set about getting on the attack and took the lead on 15 minutes. Jack Dancey split the Helston defence with a great pass and Max Williams latched onto the ball and calmly lifted the ball in for the opener.
Rovers’ tails were now up and soon after Kitan Jaiyeoba skipped past two tackles in the box before firing into the side-netting. It was a warning though as six minutes later, Tom Bradley found Kitan again on the right; he moved inside and struck an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box. Two minutes later, Kitan was involved again as he flicked the ball through for Krystian Woods to slot the ball in and a 3-0 cushion after 27 minutes.
It seemed like the result would be a foregone conclusion at half-time but Rovers gave themselves something to think about just eight minutes into the second half as Freddie Kemp slotted home a penalty following a foul by Paulton keeper James Smallcombe.
Rovers then stood firm under pressure and worked hard to get back the possession of the ball. In the 76th minute they got their reward. Emman Athanasiou hit a long ball out of defence and as Williams let the ball come to him, the Helston keeper rushed out of his goal only to slip at a crucial moment allowing Williams to lift the ball over and into the empty net.
The polish was then added late in the half when Williams crossed from the right which somehow found its way through to Wayne Nderemani to tap in from close range.
