Timsbury Athletic moved comfortably into the second round of the Somerset County League Cup for Premier and Division One teams, with a 3–0 win away at Peasedown Miners’ Welfare.
The damage was done in the first half, when Timsbury grabbed all three goals. Although the home side battled hard after the interval, and enjoyed plenty of possession, the final result was never in doubt.
The visitors took the lead after five minutes. A long-ball from Ben Hancock found Jack Nix clear on the right, and his pin-point centre was headed home by Lewis Blannin. Luke Higgins shot just over the bar, with a good effort for Peasedown, before Rhys Cook added Timsbury’s second after 26 minutes. He was brought down in the penalty box and dusted himself down, before calmly converting the spot-kick.
Timsbury keeper, Jack Scrivens, was brought into action, saving by the post from Ryan Saunders, while home keeper, Chris Allard, did well to push an Ellis Hancock shot around the upright. Cook added his second ten minutes from half-time, with the best goal of the game. A neat flick-on from Jem Lutwama created the chance, and Cook made no mistake with a clinical finish.
Peasedown enjoyed a much better second half, but rarely threatened a goal. Timsbury lacked the fluency of their earlier play, but still created the better chances, and the home side owed much to Allard, who made crucial saves from Ellis Hancock and Cook.
Substitute, Ebner Heatley, also shot over the top with a good chance for the visitors. In a rare moment of panic in the Timsbury defence, the visitors were thankful for the work of Matt Brooks, who headed off the line with Scrivens stranded. Peasedown substitute, Lewis Cross, created a chance for himself with a dazzling run, but his final effort cleared the crossbar.
Peasedown donated half of their draw ticket money to the fund being set up to support Timsbury midfielder, Liam Craze, who broke his leg the previous week at Castle Cary.
