IT HAS been a difficult season on the field for Timsbury Athletic but club chairman Rob Veater was full of praise for the spirit of the players and management when it held its annual Presentation Night at the Cricket Clubroom. He said that everyone had worked hard to see the season through and there had been some encouraging results towards the end of the campaign.
Veater thanked the club’s main sponsors Ford Fuels, ASE Couriers and Fuller-Roper as well as the individual match sponsors and field board sponsors and club President Nigel Day for organising the sponsorship. He said he was grateful to all those who had worked on the field and for the sterling work of the committee. Janet Sage had once again raised invaluable money donations by taking the collection box around on match days
The Reserve team awards were presented by Simon Roper from sponsors Fuller-Roper. It proved a successful night for Sammy Gumm who won both the Players’ trophy and the Supporters’ award. The manager’s player of the year was Sam Meaden.
The first team awards were presented by Kelvin Hancock . The manager’s player of the year was Mark Andrade while the players voted for Cain Murphy. Murphy also won the Roy Lockyer trophy for the first team supporters’ player of the year which was presented by Roy’s son Steve.
Tom Glanfield was another to pick up a brace of awards. He collected the Alan Thomas Trophy from Alan’s son Simon as leading goalscorer as well as the Chris Fear Trophy from the President as the young player of the year. The prestigious James Adams Trophy for clubperson of the year was presented to Reserve team manager Adam Bean by Nigel Day.
Tokens in appreciation of their efforts throughout the year were presented to Rita Day and Kate Gumbleton who is standing down as secretary.
