Almondsbury 3-0 Welton Rovers
Welton’s record breaking twenty game unbeaten run in the Toolstation Division One league came to an end at the windswept ground aptly named the Field at Almondsbury on Saturday afternoon.
A much changed Welton side suffered an early setback when central defender Joe Garland pulled up in the warm up and striker Courtney Charles reverted back to defender. The hosts took the game to Welton and Welton’s cause wasn’t helped when fullback Jayden Savery was shown a straight red card for pulling back an Almondsbury player on a charge and Welton were reduced to ten men with three quarters of the game. By the time the half-time whistle blew, Welton found themselves three goals down to their hosts and couldn’t really argue with that.
The second half saw Welton edge back into the game but the spark up front had gone and the Almondsbury keeper was seldom troubled. In the end, the hosts ran out worthy 3–0 winners.
Despite this result, Welton can take enormous pride and satisfaction at what they have archived so far this season. Tom Smith’s team have performed wonders home and away and the Green Army are over the moon with the efforts of the team. So it’s time to regroup and prepare for Saturday’s fixture when Bishop
Sutton are the visitors to West Clewes, kick off 3 p.m.
