WELTON Rovers kick off the new football season in the first division of the Jewson Western League with an away game against Sturmister Newton United on Saturday, August 2. United finished in eighth spot last season.

It will be their first game since the nightmare of last season in which they managed to accumulate only four points, with a win and draw, with 36 losses in 38 matches.

“We hope to put out a strong team which the Green Army can be proud of,” said boss Jamie Harrison.

Welton play their first home game the following Saturday when Hengrove Athletic are the visitors. Hengrove finished 18th last season, winning only nine of their 42 fixtures.

Welton’s early fixtures are: Aug 2 away v Sturmister Newton United, 9 home v Hengrove United, 12 away v Wells City, 16 home v Shirehampton, 23 home v Warminster Town, 30 away v Devizes Town.
