Welton Rovers 4 Roman Glass St George 1
The visitors took the lead after only four minutes when a corner from the left was punched onto the bar by Welton keeper, Owen Knight, only for the ball to fall to Oliver Hulbert, who headed home from close range. This early setback seemed to galvanise Welton, and they equalised ten minutes later when the ball fell to Charlie Babb, who struck a gem of a shot from 25 yards out that flew into the Roman Glass net.
Further Welton pressure saw the hosts take the lead on 25 minutes. Good play from Chris Pile saw him attack down the right, beating one man and then fire in a shot that was blocked by Roman Glass keeper, Phil Mills. The ball fell to Babb, his shot was blocked, only to rebound back to Babb, and this time, his volley thumped into the ground and flew over the keeper into the net. Just before half-time, Knight produced an outstanding one-handed save to deny the visitors an equaliser.
The second half saw both sides going all-out on attack and defences were under pressure. Welton got the all-important third goal when terrific play down the right by Aaron Seviour saw him waltz past two defenders and then launch an unstoppable shot that roared into the back of the net. The icing on the cake for Welton came in the 73rd minute when another great run down the right by Seviour saw him find Malich Jammeh in space in front of goal and he drilled his effort into the Roman Glass net to secure all three points for Welton and archive their fourth league win this season.
