WELTON Rovers secured their first home league vtory of the season in emphatic fashion, producing a dominant and action‑packed performance to beat Keynsham Town 4-0 in the first division of the Jewson Western League on Saturday (Jan 17), writes Bob Allard).

The hosts started at a blistering pace, forcing Keynsham goalkeeper Archie Didcott into two outstanding saves within the opening five minutes to deny Reuben Hobbs.

Moments later, Keynsham captain Mani Baird received a yellow card for a heavy challenge on Courtney Charles. From the resulting free kick, Matt Morris struck a goal‑bound effort that Didcott tipped over acrobatically. The ensuing corner found Charles, whose header clipped the top of the bar.

Welton’s pressure finally told in the 22nd minute. A deep cross from the left was met superbly by full‑back Gio Angelinetta, who drove the ball past Didcott to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Keynsham responded with a long‑range attempt from Charlie Dunn, but it flew harmlessly over. The visitors’ task became even harder in the 35th minute when Baird received a second yellow card for a foul on Morris.

Welton continued to press, and only another excellent point‑blank save from Didcott denied Lewis Russell after a clever through ball from the lively Chris Pile.

Just before the interval, Welton doubled their advantage; good work from Charles created space for Russell, who finished confidently to make it 2–0.

Welton maintained in control of the game after the break, with Pile firing wide from distance and Russell going close again. Charles then saw another effort cleared off the line as the hosts continued to dominate.

The crucial third goal arrived in the 72nd minute. Charles, enjoying an excellent game, weaved into the area and struck a shot against the inside of the post. The ball flew across goal to Angelinetta, who reacted sharply to drive home his second of the afternoon.

Keynsham were reduced to nine men with ten minutes remaining when Dennis Asante was sin‑binned for dissent. The match was then halted following an unfortunate collision involving Charles and Keynsham full‑back Dylan Powell, who required lengthy treatment before being stretchered off and taken to hospital.

With virtually the final kick of the game, substitute Luke Seviour curled a superb effort beyond Didcott to complete a convincing 4–0 victory and secure three valuable points for Welton —much to the delight of the Green Army.

Everyone at Welton Rovers sends their best wishes to Dylan Powell and hopes for his swift recovery.
