Suffering from a bad back, Geoff Hallett was a reluctant starter in the most recent competition in the Fosseway Golf Club Seniors section, but at the close, he was glad he had taken part.

Together with Frank Reeves, he lifted the Broadway and Smith Gruesomes Cup, with a nett score of 67. This is a strange challenge, with each pair driving off and then having to play the ball chosen by their rival pairing, meaning that the best drive is invariably unused. In second place were Phil Moody and Terry Button, with 68, beating Mike Ricketts and Arthur Bellinger on countback.

Two quarter-finals have now taken place in the Guerwyn Thomas Trophy. In an intriguing battle, last year's Seniors' Captain, Ray Lake, in partnership with Button, gained the bragging rights over this season's skipper, George Underwood, who was partnered by Ricketts. The match finished with Lake and Button one up. The other match was more conclusive, with Bob Smith and the new Medal Secretary, Pete Fitch, 6 & 5 winners over John Bendle and Geoff Weeks.
