Purnell Sports are celebrating a very successful few weeks, as both the junior netball squads and senior side are performing above and beyond all expectations.

On Sunday, 9th March, the junior teams travelled to Wells to compete in the final fun tournament of the year. All age groups were represented and wins were recorded across all age bands.

The Under-16s managed to win all but one game all day and finished runners-up, just edged out by a strong Bridgwater team. They were also presented with trophies for representing Somerset at regional level.

All players in this talented squad have enjoyed playing at a higher level and have one final game, this weekend at Plymouth. The senior side is also having an excellent run of form at the moment, being placed joint second in Division Three, with only a few games left to play. The senior side consists mainly of girls aged fourteen to sixteen, so to be in this position in only their second season at senior level is amazing.

This weekend saw the senior side take on local rivals, Spears, in the Plate Semi-Final. Purnell had beaten Spears at the beginning of the season, so hopes were high, although the squad were missing three of their key players.

The game was fast and furious with neither team being able to pull away from the other and the quality of play was high. Purnell didn't play their best and gave away several bad passes and basic errors, but, thankfully, managed to push ahead in the final few minutes to beat Spears 50–48. The young team now progress to the final on Saturday, 5th April and will definitely be looking to win. Coaches, Tracy and Emma, are proud of the squad's performances this season and the improvement during the second half of the season is staggering.
