The Ladies 2s had an important tie against Gillingham who were tied on points in the league table.
Mendip started off a little slow and it took a while to get a proper hold in the game. Gillingham capitalised on this and put three goals past Mendip in the first half. In the final ten minutes of the half, Mendip started to string a few passes together and threaten the Gillingham goal more. A good team effort found Ella Constable perfectly placed at the back post to score on her return from injury!
3-1 at half time, the next goal arrived early in the second half. Amelia Dix found herself through on goal and persevered until she got the ball in the back of the net. Her first goal for the 2’s and very well deserved, battling all game!
Mendip were looking stronger and stronger and continued to make press the attacking end. A quick passing play caught Gillingham by surprise and Ella doubled her tally to bring the score level at 3 goals each.
More of the same offensive play lead to a penalty corner for Mendip. It was passed back to the left post where Connie Glover just about managed to find the backboard! Mendip found themselves in the lead for the first time, however, in the dying minutes Gillingham were able to scrape a goal together to level the game share the points.
Nothing to separate the two sides but a thrilling comeback from 3 goals down nonetheless. Georgia Price was player of the match with some outstanding saves for her first game in goal.

Firebrands 4ths 1 - 2 Men’s 2nds
With numbers to a premium for both men’s sides this week, Mendip were welcomed with the return of Daniel Holliwell, sidelined for 3 months with a shoulder injury.
Mendip started the game brightly, despite having less of the ball. Firebrand’s lion share of possession came to nought with sturdy Mendip defending. It wasn’t long until Yellow’s found a breakthrough, a textbook play of two-touch passing, Dan Holliwell threaded a pass to David Lawrence who slotted home a great team goal.
Firebrands continued to hold much of the ball, but lacked any sort of intensity to trouble Mendip, who should have done more infront of goal. 1-0 at half time, Mendip, being draw specialists of the league, soon handed Firebrand’s a lifeline. The red of Firebrand’s overwhelming the defence to score a soft goal.
The Yellow’s continued to plug away and would eventually be rewarded. Will Holmes found the back board from a penalty corner to extend his lead as top goalscorer. With little left to play, Mendip battened down the hatches to try and see out the win, standing strong to earn a vital win, the first of 2022.
Player of the match was tied between Will Holmes and Daniel Holliwell, really nothing to separate them.
