Mendip’s good start to the 2018-19 campaign continued strongly on Saturday, with a convincing home win over West Wilts at Saint Gregory’s School.
Jasmine Scott opened the scoring with an excellent goal which came after a flowing passing move. Second -half goals from Hayley Young and defensive midfielder Hayley Bullock (2) secured the win, with Wilts grabbing a consolation with a well-taken shot on the rebound. Young was awarded the player of the match vote for her tireless running, movement off the ball and deft touches to set up others around her. Thanks go to the Red Post at Peasedown St John for supplying post-match hospitality. This Saturday, Mendip complete their pre-season friendly programme at home to BAC, at 1.30 p.m.

This was a very defensive game for Mendip, with many player of the match votes going to defenders Sarah Wittaker and Kate Penn. The eventual award winner was defender Connie Glover, who showed excellent running. At half-time Mendip were up 1-0 with a goal from Emma Winsley on her Seconds debut, after a superb cross from Glover on the left wing. In the second half West Wilts equalised from a short corner then took the lead from a goal in open play towards the end of the second half.
