The Methodists won the toss, inviting Combe Down to bat first on a good-looking Glasshouse wicket. They began well too, before Matt Sackett removed both their openers in their teens. The majority of the home side got starts, but the visitors kept chipping away and had held the batting side to 86–4 at drinks.

Ian Bleakley top-scored with a punchy 36, but the middle-to-late-order batsmen couldn't stick around long enough to build any really sizeable stands with him. Eight of the Methodists turned their arms over, most making useful contributions, but the standout performance was that of keeper, Dave Sackett, whose four catches and a stumping made the difference as Combe Down were finally dismissed for 136 after 36 overs.

After the interval, the visitors innings started brightly, with David Baker again in belligerent form, but the home side hit back. Andy Hulbert and Simon Elliman's accurate bowling kept a lid on the scoring, while Elliman also picked up three important wickets. At 49–4, the Methodists were teetering on the brink again, but fortunately, the next pair – Alex Nash and James Green – were able to wrest back the momentum. Their dynamic unbeaten stand of 88 took just seventeen overs, Nash finishing with a magnificent 67 not out (including thirteen fours) and Green, 16 not out, to lead the visitors to a much-needed victory by six wickets.
