A small group of Mendip students travelled to the K2 Crawley, in Sussex, for the Japan Karate Association England National Karate Championships 2015.
The day started with Kata (form) eliminations, with two students reaching the quarter-finals, but just missing out on a place in the final. Our junior Kata team, Tom Elliott, Vito DiGiovanni and Lea DiGiovanni, performed well against some older, more experienced karateka and should be very proud of the standard they showed.
Andy Forster, a Mendip instructor and one of the squad, made it through to the finals in the men's over-45 Kumite (free fighting) after some tough rounds against accomplished opponents. Andy fought a good solid fight and ended up with a Silver Medal.
Mendip Karate Instructor and Coach, Julie Morgan, said: "I am very proud of our students, performing in front of hundreds of spectators and against some of the best students from around the country shows great strength of character and to win medals at this level is a fantastic feat."
