On Saturday, Norton visited the bottom-placed Swindon club, Supermarine, for the first time.
Supermarine collected the ball from the kick-off and attacked up the hill into the Norton half, the pack won the ball in the breakdown, centre, Richard Martin, passed the ball and started the attack. After breaking the defensive line, he fed second row, Jamie Gimson, who weaved his way down the field to score the game's first try. Straight after the restart, Norton resumed the attack, but were thwarted three times close to the try line by the home defence and the touchline, leaving fifteen points going begging. Supermarine regrouped after this initial onslaught and worked their way up the field to score from a driving maul and level the score.
The team set about to be more controlled with their possession and not to squander chances with uncharacteristic handling mistakes and to quickly retake the lead. Right winger, Tom Rideout, finished off a fine attack by finally scoring in the corner, where he had been stopped twice earlier. James Abbott came off the left wing to score after skipping through the home defence to take the team into half-time with a 17–5 lead.
Shortly after the restart, Captain Denning drove over the line from close range to score Norton's fourth try, Prop, Matthew Edgell, added the fifth after a strong run up the wing to score in the corner.
In the last quarter of the game, the side started to be more clinical with the ball and started to put some more structured phases of rugby together. This produced a good attacking platform for the team, which fly half, Ben Taylor, and fullback, Adam Sinden, made good use of, keeping Supermarine on the back foot. Tries started to come more easily, Gareth Williams collected the ball in midfield and beat the remaining defender with an outrageous sidestep, leaving him on the floor to score under the posts. Joe Button crowned a ferocious game in attack and defence, collecting two tries under the post after smashing his way through the home defence.
The team's final try came from James Fuller, who collected the ball at a driving maul to dive and dot the ball down over the line. There was some discussion after the game whether he reached the line or not, but photographic evidence proved he did.
The team had produced their worst performance since Christmas, but still scored a total of nine tries, with the final score being 55–5. All the players are aware that they must play much better in Thursday night's Somerset Vase Semi-Final game against Gordano at Bristol Harlequin's, kick-off 7.30 p.m.
