Midsomer Norton CC remain top of the Bristol Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League after a win against promoted Chew Magna.

Another week of rain meant that Chew Magna had little hesitation in asking the visitors to bat first and Filer claimed a wicket in the first over. Chisimba maintained a lively pace from the other end and caused problems, but Martin Cox (56) and Alex Lear (81) weathered the storm and put together a stand of 124 for the second wicket in thirty overs.

Then Nick Cox joined Lear and the scoring rate increased. After Lear was dismissed, it was Nick Pang who dominated the innings, scoring sixty from only 36 balls, as 96 runs were added in eleven overs to set the home side a challenging target of 270 to win. Kindair had the best figures for Chew Magna with 1–32 from ten overs.

After tea, Andy Cox dismissed Beadle in his second over, bringing Watson, last week's centurion, to the crease. Henry Voigt claimed this important wicket in the fourth over and from that point, the Chew Magna batsmen found runs difficult to come by. Alex Davis bowled an outstanding spell of ten overs for only nineteen runs and two wickets, while Pang and Sam Gould also claimed two wickets each. The fielding was generally sharp and there were two run-outs, the second of which ended a stubborn stand of 39 for the tenth wicket between Chisimba and Kindair as Norton won by 134 runs.

This Saturday at Withies Lane, Midsomer Norton CC's First XI hope to maintain their unbeaten run when Taunton are the visitors. The Second XI travel to Bristol YMCA and the Third XI entertain Knowle CC. The next day, the Sunday Firsts visit Corsham and the Sunday Seconds host Bristol Pakistanis at Withies Lane.
