Last week, the Mixed Team was scheduled to play two matches, but ended up only playing one. Last Friday evening, Prattens played a Mixed Mid-Somerset League game at home to Frome Park and after eleven ends, were winning overall and on two of the three rinks, but then, as Captain Margaret Harvey put it, the wheels fell off and Prattens lost overall, only gaining points from one rink.
Sunday's mixed game was cancelled by our opponents, Wyrral Park, because they could not raise a team, but then, given the weather, Prattens were quite relieved to not have to play (does anyone really like playing in all that wet weather gear?).
The Ladies Team were very busy this week and played four games (two league and two cup), but lost all of them. Tuesday saw the Ladies play Purnell away in the Wild League, where they won on one rink, 18–13, but lost on the other two, 2–20 and 11–21, meaning that Prattens had two points and Purnell, ten points.
On Thursday, Prattens were home to Frome Park and this time managed to win on one rink, draw on another, while losing on the third, giving an overall score of 54–57, with Frome Park earning nine points and Prattens only three points. The first of the cup competitions saw Prattens away to Clevedon Prom in the Fear Cup. This proved to be a very hard game for Prattens, who only managed to win narrowly on one rink, 19–16, while losing heavily on the other two, 8–24 and 9–31.
In the second of the cup games, Prattens played against Bath in the Southey Trophy on Sunday. Prattens always knew that Bath would field a strong team, including a number of county players and that proved to be the case, with Bath winning in all disciplines. The only saving grace for the Ladies was that they managed to play all four games in such a busy week and did not have to concede any of the games.
The Men's Team played two games this week. The first game was played away against Knowle in the Mid-Somerset League on Wednesday evening. This match was lost. On Saturday, Prattens played against Keynsham C team in the Somerset County East Two Division and were successful, only losing on one rink by one shot and winning quite comfortably on both of the others to collect ten of the twelve available points.
