Roger Parfitt continued his impressive form in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club, winning both the June Medal and the scratch contest for the Rod Bruce Trophy.
His gross total of 73 beat Allen Cheney (80) and Geoff Hallett (84), while Bob Smith was second in the medal competition with an 88 (nett 65), which was good enough to put Hallett (nett 65) into third place on countback.
In the first of three social matches, Fosseway retained the Fosseking Trophy, when they beat Kingweston 4–2 at home to win 7–5 on aggregate. Acting Captain, George Underwood, got the team off to a good start pairing up with Smith to win 4&3. Colin Moon and Mike Ricketts were victorious by the same margin, John Bendle and Allen Cheney were even more convincing with a 6&5 success, while Gerry Rowell and Malcolm Tucker were 2&1 winners. Less successful were Chris Ellam and Reg Curtis, who lost 2&1, and Howard Nowell and Cyril Blacker, who were beaten 4&3.
Fosseway followed up this victory with a similar result at home to Windwhistle. Captain Ray Lake was a happy man, pairing up with Denis White to notch a crucial 2&1 win in the opening match and there was an identical result for Underwood and Nowell in the second match. Terry Button and Smith won 4&3 and Rowell and Graham Edgell were 3&2 winners. On the debit side, Moon and Ricketts were two down at the finish and in a close contest, Cheney and Mike Cage finished one down.
In their away fixture at Cannington, Fosseway put up a good fight before going down 3.5–2.5. Edgell and Frank Reeves were the most convincing winners, coming home 4&3 in front, Ricketts and Bendle won 3&2 and Rowell and Tucker halved their match. Underwood and Pete Fitch ended two down, Blacker and Cage lost 4&3 and the Bath pairing of Button and Arthur Bellinger were defeated 5&4.
This Thursday, 3rd July, the Seniors stage their Open Championship and there are a number of good prizes up for grabs.
