Paulton Rovers have started preparations for life in the Southern League Premier Division next season, where they will face several sides that have played in the Conference and possibly two ex-Football League sides, dependent on how the Football Association plan to restructure the league pyramid system.
The team have since spent a long weekend end-of-season tour to Majorca. Player Coach, Josh Jeffries, having used all his former banking skills, (he was formally Assistant Manager at HSBC, in Midsomer Norton), to extract fines and penalties throughout the season to self-fund this venture.
Football Chairman, Dave Bissex, said: "One of the proudest moments of my footballing life was that Monday at Merthyr. The lads had done what the media and the Welsh public said was impossible, indeed it did seem like it when considering our opponents' credentials this season, but that is football – we did it and deserved it, to think also our travelling 200 fans could be heard over the 2,000 plus home supporters.
"A proud and, indeed, emotional moment in my life and the club's history, one I will never forget. A massive congratulation to Nick Bunyard, Paul Milsom and the lads for achieving one of my dreams and seriously adding our village and the North East Somerset community to the national football scene.
"Hopefully, the community will respond with increased crowd numbers and get involved in supporting Paulton Rovers Football Club in every way possible.
"Quite unbelievable was the almost unanimous congratulations from our fellow clubs, one of the most special ones being a personal message from David McNally and Delia Smith and all at Norwich City, with them finding time to send a message of congratulations, despite their huge personal disappointment.
"Also to the many former players and Managers who sent their congratulations, including Steve Phillips (Crewe Alexandra) and Ashley Barnes (Burnley) who went from Paulton Rovers to a full-time professional career. That sentiment was echoed by Bristol City and Rovers, Bath City and Yeovil Town, too.
"It means an awful lot to us all at the club, there are tremendously exciting times ahead for all of us and our supporters, thanks to all the staff and backroom team who relentlessly give up their time to ensure we have one of the best clubs around, the work starts now, even more so than before, so that we will be successful in the Premier Division. Thank you all for your support."
Merthyr Town's management team of Garry Shepherd and Danny Carter tendered their resignations last Thursday in the aftermath of the Welsh side's 2–0 defeat by Paulton Rovers. Paulton Rovers' planned Presentation Night was deferred as a result of the play-off success, with a new date due to be announced.
