A special evening has been arranged at the Conygre Hall Timsbury on Friday, 30th November 7.30 p.m. to pay tribute to Roger Bird who has been connected with the village cricket club for sixty years. An outstanding wicketkeeper in his playing days, Bird has been responsible for the development of a generation of young cricketers.

For many years, Bird was manager of Somerset youth sides and former Somerset cricketers, Keith and Kevin Parsons, and present Timsbury Captain, Mark Sage, were just two of those who came under his guidance at that time. Bird has also run a number of the Timsbury youth sides and was instrumental in forming the club's fourth team to give youngsters a chance to develop their skills. He still umpires for the third team and he and his supportive wife, Yvonne, continue to serve food after matches on a Saturday, a task they have carried out for more than thirty years. There are few roles Bird has not carried out in the club, serving as a Captain, Fixture Secretary and member of the Social Committee. In his younger days, he played top level hockey in goal for Bath and the Timsbury public know him as a regular member of the Theatre Group pantomime.

Timsbury Captain, Mark Sage, who is organising the evening said: "Roger has been an influential member of our club for many years and generations have reason to thank him for the efforts he has put in on their behalf. We have tried to contact as many people as we can to come along on November 30th, but it is difficult to reach everyone and I would appreciate it if anyone able to come could contact me on 01761 435344 or 07894 014705 to help with catering and hopefully make it an evening to remember."
