Keynsham Seconds 5 Midsomer Norton Seconds 14
Midsomer Norton Rugby Club’s Seconds continued their bright start to the new year, coming from behind against the old enemy to earn a well-deserved victory.
The Away side suffered an early setback when Keynsham scored after ten minutes, but rallied well and dominated the territory throughout the first half. However, the first forty minutes would ultimately prove frustrating, as a series of handling errors cost them vital scoring opportunities. Packer came closest, but for the second week running failed to ground the ball.
In defence, Norton were defiant, with strong shoulders defying the home side’s attack and Rideout’s boot, as well as a couple of timely breaks from Captain, Knight, relieving any pressure.
The second half was another gritty affair, but Norton eventually wore down their opponents and took the lead with ten minutes to go when Kemar Active Barrier Stewart bounced through defenders and crashed over the whitewash.
Young scrum half, Stu Kelly, then made sure of the win with a late try, darting from the back of the scrum. Rideout converted both scores to seal a memorable derby win.
Norton have now recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season and head to North Petherton this weekend, looking to further strengthen their position in Somerset 1.
