MIDSOMER NORTON 3rds 22 TOR 2nds 41

The Thirds rounded off their Somerset 3 South campaign against table-topping Tor Seconds on Saturday.

The League-leaders needed to secure a bonus-point win to secure the title, and this they achieved, but only after Norton made them work hard for their win.

Tor were comfortably the strongest side the Thirds had played this season, but Norton gave a great account of themselves, earning a try-scoring bonus-point along the way.

The Norton defence was very committed and kept Tor out for long periods to ensure a fairly tight and even game. The Norton scrum competed manfully throughout, led by a sterling performance from prop, James Todd.

Tor proved their superiority when pouncing on any Norton errors to score a number of long-range tries to secure the result.

Norton’s try scorers were fly-half, Jon Swift, with a trademark dummy; Steve Dunster with a rampaging charge to the line and a brace from combative scrum-half, Dan Moon.

Special mention should go to Henry McLachlan, who made an impressive debut. His efforts were backed up by excellent performances from flanker, Alex Higgs, and centre, Greg Morgan.

Next week, Norton entertain a touring side from Tewekesbury; kick-off at 1 p.m.
