The Somer Valley Tennis Club Championship finals culminated in a wonderful day of tennis for all the finalists and club members who came to watch on the indoor courts at Writhlington Sports Centre.
Having had numerous events run in September with a record number of club members participating, the club hosted a wonderful day run by so many amazing volunteers it was a testament to the growing popularity of what the tennis club has to offer in the Somer Valley area.

Sadly, we thought we had gotten rid of covid, but with infection rates high in the area, we lost two of first team ladies Mandy Baldwin and Francesca Beg to covid before finals day. Not to be thwarted, the tournament committee managed to keep the finals together, drafting in the semi-finalists from the events played earlier in the month.
Well done to all our winners, a special mention to Samuel Perryman (17-years-old) and Ashley Ward (14-years-old) who contested the Men’s singles final, Patrick Lodge, tournament referee said: “This was an incredibly high standard, both boys attend Writhlington School and it’s a pleasure to have them play for the club.”
There were two U16 events, the singles being won by Matthew Harris against a feisty Imogen Lines and the doubles was won by Imogen Lines and partner John Bolton after a 3-set thriller against Oli Aldred and Ben Shepherd.
Off court awards for Bernard Pendle club member went to Patrick Lodge and Stonier Hobbs volunteer of the year was presented to ladies co-ordinator Jane Benney.
Thank you to our sponsors Scott Construction, Biznus Payroll and the Hunt Family.
James Brocksopp, Tournament Organiser, said: “What a fantastic day it was and really showcases the best of what the club can offer. The quality of the matches today were a very high standard and congratulations to the members that took part, we must also say thank you to member Sarah Dawe from TTL Sports Photography for taking some amazing shots on the day, plus fellow member Julia Nest who took photos during the events, if you are interested to see any of these, please go to our Facebook page’.
