The eleven-time World Champion and six-time Olympic Cycling Champion made the unique visit to the Council's new 1.5km closed road circuit – which was funded by British Cycling – as part of his HOY Bikes UK Tour.
Chris led a public ride around the circuit and met fans, including Year 6 pupils from Welton Primary School. The event was organised by Evans Cycles and supported by Bath and North East Somerset Council. Despite a busy schedule, Sir Chris spent as much time as possible with everyone who had turned up to see him on a gloriously sunny day, signing autographs and having his photograph taken.
Cycling has been a central part of Chris' life ever since he got his first bike. He was inspired to get into cycling after watching the BMX chase scene in Stephen Spielberg's movie, ET. From that day on, all Chris wanted to do was ride his bike racing in BMX, mountain bike, cyclo-cross, road, and track. It was never just about the medals, but the sheer joy of cycling – eleven World Championships and six Olympic Gold Medals later, it is the same motivation that keeps him riding.
Chris said: "Facilities like the Odd Down Cycle Circuit are great for cyclists of all levels, whether looking for a safe place to learn and develop your skills, or to race and train. I have been looking forward to riding the circuit on my new HOY bike and it was great that lots of people came to join me on this stop of the UK Tour."
