Sunday saw Wells City Harriers’ Festival of Running take place around the historic city of Wells, running around the medieval architecture and local countryside over 5km and 10km courses.
Somer AC Running Club was out in force with athletes from the Seniors team performing well in the hot and humid conditions. Somer’s Tori Ratcliffe was impressive in being first lady back in the 10km race in a swift 39:06.
It was Somer’s Youth athletes that really shone though being supported by Youth Coach Martin Dera. In the 5km race, Oliver Aldred secured 6th place overall in 18.26 with Owen Dix in a strong 12th place. Dylan Cole, fresh from being named Somer’s Best Youth Newcomer continued to build his race experience finishing in a creditable 25th, with established runners Linda and Jean rocking their age groups.
The 10km race saw the Seniors also led in by the Youth. Tyler Maule further honed his longer distance skills, finishing strongly in personal best time of 43.15, leading in his Youth coach, Matt Exley, as well as Senior clubmates Stuart, Martin and Matthew.
A superb event held in beautiful Somerset.
