Jarrett County Indoor Runner Up Shooting has continued in the winter months for South Wansdyke Archery Club (SWAC). On Sunday 20th November at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, four club members participated in the Somerset County Archery Association (SCAA) Indoor Championships.
Clive Jarrett, shooting well with 564 out of 600, was SCAA runner up to gold medalist Lee Parsons from Bowmen of Ina who scored 578.
Also competing for the club where Phil and Katie Beale in their first ever inter-club competition, Phil coming tenth and Katie ninth in their respective categories. Closer to home, the clubs monthly indoor handicap competitions have been very competitive. In November; first was Kim Gay with 1457, second Phil Beale with 1450, third Janet Ross with 1445.
In December; first Clive Jarrett with 1448, second Simon Whittle with 1431 (twenty one golds), third Kim Gay with 1431 (thirteen golds) and January 2023; first Andy Young with 1450, second Kim Gay with 1444 and third Andrea Whittle with 1436. Congratulations to Kim Gay, making the podium on all three occasions.
We also see the return to the winter Somerset County postal competitions, where SWAC had great success last season. After the first three months of competition, the club sits fifth in the indoor Portsmouth League, nine points behind current leaders Burnham Company of Archers. In the outdoor Frostbite league SWAC are tied second with Bowmen of Ina and five points behind Burnham Company of Archers.
With evenings slowly getting lightener, thoughts head towards the warmer summer season and if archery is something you would like to try, there are still a few spaces on our ArcheryGB recognized beginners course.
