Somer Valley FM are celebrating UNESCO’s Sport themed World Radio Day, with a special Sports Breakfast Show on Tuesday, February 13th.

This year’s event marks the seventh time the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization have celebrated the power of radio across the world, engaging radio stations, regulatory bodies and the public, in a celebration of sport and its ability to inspire and connect communities.

The Somer Valley Sports Breakfast presents two hours of sports inspired news, views and music, from 7 a.m. Focusing on grassroots sport and community participation, Luke Barnes and Ian Nockolds will celebrate what the Somer Valley has to offer local people interested in sport and healthy living.

Building on the success of the Somer Valley Sports Show, the Sports Breakfast looks at a variety of sporting clubs and recreational activities, including football, rugby, yoga, tennis and cricket. The show will feature a variety of interviews from Club representatives, community leaders and local sporting personalities, including Welton Rovers Manager Clive Scott, Radstock Town Manager, Shane Smith, and Yeovil Town Coach and England Veterans World Cup winning goalkeeper, Steve Phillips.

Former Sports Show presenter, Ian Nockolds, said, “I’m delighted to come out of retirement, even if it’s only for one show! Throughout my time on Somer Valley FM, I really wanted to do a sports breakfast show, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate UNESCO’S World Radio Day than this!”

Luke Barnes, Somer Valley FM Production Manager, said, “The Sports Breakfast celebrates diversity, equality, peace and development in sports broadcasting, showcasing how radio can be used to inform the whole community about activities that can benefit their health and wellbeing.”
